The worldwide famous ship builder and sailmaker education at U/NORD in Denmark

Not many educations can now a days say, that they have ties to an almost 1000 years old hand craft tradition. Traditions, that they at a daily basis try to carry out in teaching, but at the same time constant renews to be relevant, current and innovative. The boat builder and the sailmaker education at the vocational school, U/NORD, in the North Zealand of Denmark can claim that.

In line with other high schools and universities, U/NORD must be on top of mind in the raw material that makes up the schools existence – namely its students. A recruitment campaign was launched at the end of 2020 to recruit new students for the upcoming 2021 season on social media. At the start of the new school year, August 2021, student access to these two tracks has more than doubled.

Create awareness among the young people who are in the process of choosing their future lives

These are big words, but nevertheless the truth. A graduated students from the boat builder or the sailmaker education can get a job all over the world. The educated in Denmark is a golden ticket for a job working within wood, steel, glass fiber and sails in areas like: sail boats for leisure, trawlers, sailing dinghy for competitions, kayaking, fast motorboats, commercial boating, lifesaving ships or renovation of old wooden veteran ships. It is even possible to make an additional master degree as a ship engineer to build and design larger ships.

Landing pages for the two tracks at U/NORDs website

As a “soon to be” student, everything you want to know must be available at the landingpage. If it becomes too complicated or if there is no logic in what they see and read, they will seek somewhere else to get their inspiration. And then they are lost. Generally there are three steps a student have to decide on, and give their check mark to, before signing up to participate in the classes and spend their next four and a half year at the school.

Since U/NORD is a state funded vocational education, the sign-up element is hosted by a government administrated website outside these two landingpages. It is a tough decision for a student to make “the big jump” and sign-up, so their background information must be adequate to make the experience satisfying and their choice right.
